It may only take a single glance for even the most casual observer to become captivated by the swirling beauty of the Hampshire Avon. And certainly over the ages, many people, not least the anglers and natural historians, have admitted that it was love at first sight.

Despite its apparently slow-motion passage through the most gentle of landscapes, it has an intoxicating atmosphere that shifts and changes throughout the course of a single day, let alone an entire year.

Paul Witcher is an angler and film maker who readily admits that he fell in love with the river, in his case, around 40 years ago. So his film, 'Four Seasons on the Hampshire Avon', is a portrait of an obsession. It covers not just the wonderful piscatorial pursuits, but also the moods and astonishing scenery, as well as some of the rare and beautiful wildlife of this gem of a river.
